Description of Location:
The student will conduct research at the greenhouse located at the Horticulture Teaching and Research Center (HTRC), near the main MSU campus in East Lansing. Field research will be conducted at three Christmas tree farms located at different locations in Michigan. All course work will be taken at the main campus and office space will also be provided at the main MSU campus in East Lansing.

Description of duties:
Department of Horticulture at Michigan State University invites applications for an MS assistantship in Horticulture. Research projects with Horticulture faculty focus on integrated weed management for ornamentals. The successful applicant will conduct research related to weed management, including (but not limited to) developing control strategies using herbicides, and other non-chemical techniques to manage weeds in the Christmas tree production system. The Student will also conduct research to develop new alternative control strategies for Clopyralid herbicide-resistant common ragweed species. The research will include a mix of greenhouse, field, and laboratory work. The student will require to drive to Christmas tree farms to conduct field experiments. Student will be expected to present at scientific conferences and extension workshops and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
Qualification sought: Candidates must hold a BS in plant science, horticulture, agronomy, weed science, or any other related fields. The preferred candidate should be comfortable with work under strenuous field and greenhouse conditions (heat, inclement weather, etc.) and able to work independently. Candidates should have scores for GRE for verbal, quantitative, and analytical sections. For internationals, should have TOEFL score a minimum average score of 80, with a minimal subscore of 19 for reading, listening, and speaking, and 22 for writing. Or IELTS, a score of 6.5 or higher is required for international students.
