Part-time Undergraduate Student Summer Position

If you are interested in ornamental plant production and reducing environmental impact Dr. Fernandez is seeking an undergraduate student summer employee to work an average of 20 hours per week (some weeks may be more or less). Responsibilities will include assisting with irrigation system setup and maintenance, container plant care, nursery area maintenance, water sampling, and data collection. Physically demanding work will required such as potting up and moving 3 gallon container plants and plot maintenance (weeding, mowing). Pay is $15 per hour. The student will be assisting graduate students on their research projects. The main project will investigate the use of engineered potting mixes to retain phosphorus (the main nutrient responsible for eutrophication in fresh water systems) in the plant containers. A secondary project will investigate the effectiveness of a woodchip bioreactor on reducing pesticide movement in a commercial greenhouse in Grand Rapids (some travel with a graduate student by car- project car not personal car- may be necessary).
