Job Summary

The Plant Growth Facilities Coordinator will be responsible for care and maintenance of greenhouse and growth chamber spaces in the Lilly complex and Whistler building.  You will provide the equipment, environment, and supplies required for successful research and teaching plant materials in WSLR and LILY growth facilities and identify and eradicate pests in greenhouse and growth chambers. Other responsibilities will include but are not limited to: 

  • Coordinating efforts with supervisors from Botany and Agronomy departments for greenhouse care and use
  • Monitoring space, environment and equipment conditions in greenhouse and growth chambers occupied by individual programs for all faculty and staff in the Botany & Plant Pathology and Agronomy Departments in accordance with an established operation plan and protocol
  • Co-maintaining controlled environment growth facilities in WSLR and LILY
  • Programming greenhouse and growth chamber controllers and computer hosts
  • Assisting in the daily management of the insect and disease management programs in greenhouses as well as WSLR and LILY growth chamber facilities
  • Scouting for insects and diseases daily and safely, legally and effectively applying pesticides
  • Coordinating and supervising the diagnosing of plant problems and making appropriate adjustments in watering, fertilization and environment to ensure plant health
  • Keeping proper records of recharges and managing budget
  • Maintaining notices and records in compliance with EPA regulations
  • Installing and maintaining automated irrigation


  • Bachelor's degree in plant sciences or an agriculture related field 
  • Two years of agriculture and/or greenhouse experience
  • Pesticide Applicators license or ability to obtain the license within 6 months of employment
  • Ability to supervise
  • Excellent oral communication and telephone skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work independently and with others
  • Valid U.S. or Canadian driver's license 


  • Demonstrated experience in plant growth and maintenance and greenhouse management
