SCIENTIFIC AND ENGINEERING (SEIU)

Conduct activities to determine, enforce, and promote compliance with state and federal laws pertaining to, but not limited to, plant health and agricultural products.  Duties include:  

Plant Health: Identification, inspection and certification of plants and plant products that are imported, grown for domestic use, or intended for export markets.  Investigation of complaints, licensing of businesses, inspection of establishments and marketplaces, and assuring compliance with state, federal and international requirements for the distribution of plant materials, including industrial hemp.  Agricultural Products: Inspection related to the production, sale and distribution of animal feed, fertilizer or other agricultural products following standard operating procedures provided by the Animal Feed Safety and Agricultural Products (AFSAP) Section.  

This position is required to follow established standard operating procedures and meet quality, quantity, and timeliness standards for assigned work.

 

Required Education and Experience

 

Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in agronomy, agriculture technology, agriscience, biology, botany, crop science, entomology soil science, horticulture, forestry, landscape architecture, plant biology, plant pathology, plant science, or plant physiology.

Experience

Plant Industry Field Scientist 9
No specific type or amount is required.

Plant Industry Field Scientist 10
One year of professional experience in enforcing and/or complying with the laws and regulations pertaining to pesticide use, insects, pests, and plant diseases in agricultural commodities and horticultural stock equivalent to a Plant Industry Field Scientist.

Plant Industry Field Scientist P11
Two years of professional experience in enforcing and/or complying with the laws and regulations pertaining to pesticide use, insects, pests, and plant diseases in agricultural commodities and horticultural stock equivalent to a Plant Industry Field Scientist, including one year equivalent to a Plant Industry Field Scientist 10.
