Job description

Founded in 1973, Planterra is a national leader in the interior landscape industry, providing interior plants and horticulture services to corporate campuses, medical facilities, hospitality properties, Fortune 500 companies, and premier retail destinations.

 

Planterra is currently seeking a full-time Purchasing Manager to coordinate all procurement company-wide.

 

This detail-oriented and passionate strategist will be responsible for researching, negotiating, and purchasing interior and exterior plants, decorative containers, replica plants, and holiday décor, as well as landscape hard goods, equipment rentals and subcontractor services.

 

A strong communicator committed to building excellent purchasing strategies, the Purchasing Manager will maintain positive relationships with suppliers, coordinate with internal teams regarding their supply needs, and oversee daily purchasing activities to achieve the best quality material for the best price.

 

The focus of this position entails procuring the necessary material for the implementation of design/build and bid/build projects. The ideal candidate will have strong plant knowledge, as well as a solid knowledge of landscape materials and processes (containers, replica/faux plants, subcontractor management, hard goods negotiation, etc).

 

Experience purchasing for landscape contractor, wholesale floral, nursery, greenhouse, or construction industry is strongly preferred. Knowledge of ornamental plants is necessary.

 

Job responsibilities

  • Manage daily purchasing activities and develop purchasing strategies
  • Work with Sales & Design and Operations teams to prepare estimates and understand project needs (i.e., timing, budget, plant and materials choices, )
  • Attend weekly Operations and Sales meetings
  • Source and supply all materials for each
  • Research reliable vendors and supplies, build and track vendor relationships
  • Negotiate contracts, prices, timelines, etc. with vendors
  • Develop and maintain a current vendor database
  • Identify and flag problems that arise with supply chain concerns and develop cost-effective solutions
  • Forecast price and market trends for the interior landscaping niche within the greater horticulture discipline
  • Strategize and stock a min/max inventory of in-stock materials, along with Design/Sales and Operations
  • Attend trade shows and buying trips representing Planterra

 

 

Requirements

  • Proven work experience as a purchasing manager or similar position
  • Experience working with a landscape contractor, nursery/greenhouse, or wholesale floral
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Quickbooks or equivalent accounting software
  • Deep knowledge of inventory and supply chain management
  • Ability to perform strategic procurement activities across multiple categories of spend
  • Degree in business administration, supply chain management, logistics is a Relevant field experience is required.
