Summary of Job Duties:

The Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture seeks qualified candidates for the Postdoctoral Associate position, which is a twelve-month, non-tenure-track position with 100% research responsibilities. The potential for renewal beyond the initial twelve-month appointment period is contingent upon the availability of funds.

The Postdoctoral Associate will take an active part in the National Predictive Modeling Tool Initiative (NMPTI) for cotton disease management. The postdoctoral associate will be actively involved in collaboration with multiple laboratories in the southern Cotton belt processing samples from spore traps, summarizing data, and assisting with model development that may predict disease. The candidate will be responsible for processing and analyzing pathogen levels using molecular diagnostics, modeling pathogen epidemics, and writing manuscripts related to target spot and areolate mildew.

The position will be remote located in East Lansing, Michigan and it will be co-directed with Dr. Alejandro Rojas and Dr. Terry Spurlock. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in Plant pathology or a related field at the commencement of the position. Candidates with a background in plant pathology, molecular diagnostics, and preferably epidemiology and management research, expertise in long-term ecological data analytics and modeling, and proficiency in statistical analysis are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in these areas.


Qualifications:

  • A successful candidate will have recent Ph.D. level training in plant pathology, mycology, or related fields with the demonstrated potential to integrate experimental and analytical data for model development.
  • Excellent organizational and written/verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a multicultural environment are required.
  • Knowledge of experimental design and statistical techniques applied in analyzing big data.
