Corteva Agricscience is currently seeking Production Summer Student Assistants to participate in a 3-month experience designed to give a broad-based exposure to the day-to-day activities of soybean and wheat seed production. The assistants in the program will participate in all aspects of production activities including planting, field maintenance, data collection, and possibly harvesting. Position duration is May-August 2021. We are currently seeking candidates to be based out of our productions facilities in Grand Rapids, Ohio and Mid-Michigan and the Thumb of Michigan.
Responsibilities will include scouting fields and Integrated Pest Management duties including but not limited to: supply research studies, economic injury threshold evaluation, weed and disease identification, and crop progress reporting. The Production Summer Student Assistant will play an important role in raising a quality and high yielding seed crop. This role will be exposed to a number of duties performed by a Corteva Production Agronomist in the day to day activities of seed production.
The preferred candidate will be pursuing a 4-year degree in agronomy, agriculture studies, agricultural systems technology, or related field with a broad interest in the agriculture industry. Strong communication skills (oral and written), teamwork and leadership skills, strong computer and analytical skills are required. Potential candidates should possess: the ability to work effectively within a team environment; lead and influence teams/projects; and the ability work in and adapt to a rapidly changing business environment. Willingness to work in a variety of areas (field, plant, warehouse) and possess strong safety habits.
Other requirements include: the ability to work in crop production fields, have limited exposure to chemicals, dust, noise, temperature variation; moderate lifting 50-100 lbs, ability to work long days during peak seasons. Must also be willing to travel between production locations and various fields.
