Research Technician Position

 

The Szendrei Lab at Michigan State University is seeking a qualified person to conduct research and participate in extension activities related to vegetable production.

 

Position Summary: This is a full-time position in the Department of Entomology at Michigan State University based in East Lansing, MI. The Szendrei lab (https://vegetable.ent.msu.edu) is looking for a motivated person whose primary duty will be coordinating and managing a grant funded project to investigate pollinator communities and management in urban agriculture. Responsibilities will include collecting field data and conducting field experiments, assisting with compiling data for scientific reports, papers, journal articles and abstracts, analyzing data, and delivering and creating extension materials.

This person will report to Dr. Szendrei and will frequently communicate with other research collaborators. The incumbent will also be expected to contribute to social media presence, travel to meetings and communicate with stakeholders.

 

Duties and responsibilities

70% - Contribute to research, project-specific management, data entry, and reporting 25% - Lab support and management, and other position-related responsibilities

5% - Safety and professional development

 

Education/Experience

The job requires a minimum of B.S. in entomology, M.S. preferred. Degree in entomology, biology, agronomy, environmental science, horticulture, or other related fields; experience with research and extension duties is preferred.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and a motor vehicle background check
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team as well as an individual
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • Time management and multitasking skills to meet deadlines
  • Experience with field research

Desired start date

March-April 2024, could be flexible. This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term position with reappointment contingent on satisfactory performance and available funding.

 

Starting salary: negotiable, based on prior experience
