Rock Cobble Farm Summer Internship Program 2019
Rock Cobble Farm is a large private estate located in South Kent, Connecticut.
Situated in the picturesque Litchfield Hills, the farm is comprised of sprawling
woodlands, formal French style rose, cut flower, vegetable and herb gardens
bounded by boxwood and hornbeam hedges, extensive woodland garden, orchards,
greenhouses, hay meadows and pastures, meandering stone walls, historic houses
and barns.
Interns will gain experience in nearly all horticultural aspects of estate operation
including:
Plant installation and maintenance
IPM
Vegetable production
Cut flower production
Irrigation & fertilization
Propagation
Arboriculture
Woodland management
Greenhouse maintenance
Turf management
Stone wall construction
Beekeeping
Intern Responsibilities
Work schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm, with some weekends necessary
Adhere to very high aesthetic standards in all areas
Actively participate in all horticultural operations of the estate
Interact effectively with other staff to insure a harmonious environment
Applicant Requirements
Must be enrolled in a university horticulture program or related field
Ability to use horticultural tools and power equipment safely
Basic knowledge of gardening techniques
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and tolerate exposure to inclement weather
Must be industrious and self-motivated
Housing is provided on the estate.
Compensation: $560 weekly stipend
