Seattle Golf Club 2024 Turfgrass Internship

 

Established in 1900, Seattle Golf Club is a private 18-hole golf club in North Seattle with a renowned championship golf course, outstanding practice facilities and exceptional clubhouse amenities and services. Seattle Golf Club is regarded as one of the premier private clubs on the west coast, priding itself on elite playing conditions on the golf course and remarkable services to members and guests throughout the property. The Club has played host to many prestigious tournaments, including several USGA championships and the 1961 Walker Cup.

 

Seattle Golf Club recently completed an extensive renovation to all 18 holes and continues to make course improvements in accordance with our master plan, including the renovation of our driving range this winter. Rigorous playability and aesthetic standards offer unique challenges and learning opportunities in a fast-paced but engaging environment.

 

Job Description

Seattle Golf Club is looking for motivated self-starters who are interested in progressing through a career in turfgrass management. Interns will have the drive and curiosity required to learn and succeed in the private club industry and will realize the programs that go into maintaining an exceptional golf course. Through practical experience, Interns will be prepared for advancement in the turfgrass industry.

 

Under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents, interns will be exposed to all facets of our maintenance practices and cultural programs. Interns will be expected to be engaged and ask questions every step of the way and will work alongside each of our fulltime staff members to gain practical hands-on experience in a variety of tasks. All aspects of turfgrass maintenance will be emphasized. Successful interns will gain the necessary experience to understand and implement sound agronomic strategies and cultural practices.

 

Areas of emphasis include:

 

  • Course setup
  • Mowing of playing surfaces
  • Bunker maintenance
  • Hand-watering
  • Irrigation management

Interns must be currently enrolled in a turfgrass or other plant/soil science program and be able to pass a background check. At least one year of experience working on a golf course maintenance staff is preferred. The ability to lift 50 lbs. and work in inclement weather is also required.
