The Weed management for ornamental crop production lab at the Department of Horticulture is seeking applicants for full-time summer research assistant position for Summer 2020 and this position can be extended into Fall 2020.

Job description:

The successful candidate will be assisting a Graduate Research Assistant in the research project on weed management for ornamental crop production. Applicant must be prepared to work outside, in greenhouse, and in lab located at the Horticulture Teaching and Research Center (HTRC) and at the Plant & Soil Science Building, respectively. Activities will include collecting different types of weed seeds, filling up pots with soil/substrate, potting up ornamental plants, lifting heavy bags of soil (up to 50 lbs.), setting up experiments in greenhouse, hoophouse and in the field, maintaining greenhouse, collecting data, and helping in writing scientific articles and reports. Candidates are required to have a valid driving license.

Qualifications:

  • Interest in ornamental horticulture, weed science, greenhouse, field and physical work
  • Interest in some basic lab work
  • Driver’s license, car and basic computer skills
  • Previous research experience is not required as training will be provided

Working hours and Salary:

  • Salary $10 to $12/hr (based on experience)
  • Up to 40 hours/ week in Summer 2020 (can be extended in Fall 2020)
