The MSU Forest Entomology Lab is looking for undergraduate research assistants to work during the 2023 summer field season (May to mid-August). Successful applicants may participate in research projects focused on exotic forest pest trapping surveys, hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA), beech bark disease (BBD), woodborer biodiversity, emerald ash borer (EAB), and other major forest health issues. This is a great summer employment opportunity for anyone with an interest in forestry and entomology, invasion ecology and has an appreciation for Michigan’s natural resources. Duties may include monitoring woodborer traps, evaluating tree condition and regeneration in black ash, hemlock, or beech-maple ecosystems across a variety of field sites in Lower and Upper Michigan. Other activities may include participating in research on pests in commercial chestnut orchards, assisting with trap assembly and processing samples, collecting and processing tree cores, along with general lab maintenance and data entry.
