Golf Course Maintenance Intern
Whistling Straits & Blackwolf Run are now accepting applications for the position of Golf Course Maintenance Intern for the 2024 season. The Straits Course has hosted the 2004, 2010, 2015 PGA Championship, the 2007 U.S. Senior Open and recently, the 2020 Ryder Cup, held in 2021. Whistling Straits is a 36-hole Links Style resort course in Haven, Wisconsin with Bentgrass greens and tees, Fine Fescue fairways and rough. Golf Digest ranks the Straits Course #4 and the River Course #18 in America of greatest public golf courses. Job Description: To assist the superintendent and assistants in the operation and management of the golf courses. Some of the duties of the 2024 Season include but are not limited to:
- Golf Course Construction
Re-grading of corporate viewing sites and tee boxes
Renovation to select bunkers
- Irrigation troubleshooting and repair
Startup operations of pump station and systems
Adjustment of heads and watering programs
Opportunity to work with Toro system at Blackwolf and Rainbird system at Whistling Straits.

- Turfgrass Establishment
- Employee Training
Leading small crews on routine tasks
- Daily Labor Scheduling
Coordinating weekly goals with superintendent and assistants
- Training in Tournament Preparation
- All aspects of golf course maintenance
Cultural practices
Moisture management
Fertilizer and pesticide calibration and application
Equipment training – walk-mowers, fairway units, rough mowers, aerifiers, etc.
Past interns have highlighted that they learned to do everything here!
Wage: $14.00-$17.00/ Hr. depending upon experience. Overtime available 10-20 hours/week with every other weekend off.
Housing: Free housing available (taxes will be deducted for this amenity). (Limited availability)
Golfing Privileges: Students are encouraged to use privileges provided at all four Pete Dye designed golf courses.
Comments: Interns will be encouraged to develop supervisory skills while collaborating with a diverse staff of 40+ associates. Interns will rotate courses monthly to experience new managements styles and diversity of courses/crews.
