STUDENT INTERNSHIP

Winged Foot Golf Club is a private club with two 18-hole golf courses located in Mamaroneck, NY and  is located just 20 miles north of NYC. A.W. Tillinghast designed the two championship caliber golf courses. The club was founded in 1921 and opened for play in 1923. This 2023 year marks our Centennial, 100 years since the first round of golf was ever played.

 

Winged Foot has a storied history of hosting national championship golf. The club has been selected to host the 2028 U.S. Open Championship. The 128th U.S. Open will mark the seventh time the championship has been held at Winged Foot. It will also be the 14th USGA championship to be hosted by the club. During its 100-year history, the club has been the site of six U.S. Opens, two U.S. Amateurs, two U.S. Women’s Opens, one U.S. Senior Open, one U.S. Amateur Four-Ball and one Walker Cup Match. In addition, Winged Foot hosted the 1997 PGA Championship.

 

Since Winged Foot’s opening, both the West and East courses have been consistently ranked in the Golf Digest Top 100 in the United States. The club recently completed a restoration of both golf courses and built a new state-of-the-art turf care facility.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

Interns will be mowing/rolling playing surfaces, hand watering, and assisting in liquid and granular chemical applications. Interns will also be involved in many projects, such as installing SubAir systems

on the East course, construction of a new Turf Care Facility building, bunker/tee renovations, additions to the drainage system, irrigation projects, and sod work. With a successful internship, our hope is that interns will take the opportunity and return for higher roles within the organization.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicants should be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a 2- or 4-year Turf, or Plant and Soil Science
  • Golf Maintenance experience and knowledge of the game of golf is helpful, but not
  • Candidate must have a positive attitude with a drive to succeed in a fast paced team

 

COMPENSATION

$17.00/hr., plus overtime
