Research

KBS LTAR research is stakeholder driven, in that scientists and stakeholders work together to define and update research goals and direction. Core areas of research within the KBS LTAR include:

  • Increased productivity, including yields and profitability;
  • Positive environmental outcomes, including those related to soil health, climate change, and biodiversity; and
  • Rural prosperity, including farm and community well-being.

The signature LTAR experiment at KBS is the Aspirational Cropping System Experiment (ACSE), which is designed to develop and evaluate future production systems that better promote the long-term sustainability of cropland agriculture. Additional short and long-term experiments complement the ACSE in order to test additional hypotheses. On-farm measurements extend ACSE research questions to farm settings.
