Urban/Rural Conversation Exhibits

In 2023, Michigan Artshare will be hosting Urban/Rural Conversation exhibits and concerts in four partner communities of Owosso, Jackson, Charlotte and Detroit from May through August. Each of the local venues will host a “Meet in the Street” event to coincide with the art exhibit and the concert. These events are designed to bring neighbors together to celebrate creativity in their community.

Our more rural partners are especially interested in the new energy and artistic renaissance that is occurring in Detroit and how they can become a part of it. Detroit artists are excited to have their work enjoyed in more places throughout the state and for the opportunity to connect with other communities in meaningful ways. This powerful community-building project began in 2019 as an effort to create and promote connections between four lower Michigan urban and rural communities using art and music as a shared language.

Michigan ArtShare has selected six artists who will create original work for the Urban/Rural Conversation exhibits across (4) locations:

The concert series will span the genres of country, jazz, blues, Motown, and funk, with Owosso and Jackson hosting:

  • Zac Bru of Detroit Bureau of Sound
  • The Pick & Roll Band
  • Kev E Kev

Detroit will host:

  • Brandon McCoy
  • Matthew Shannon
  • The John Patrick Peters Band
