Impacts in Michigan

Michigan Sea Grant 2017 Impact by Focus Area

Michigan Sea Grant focuses on four areas: Healthy Coastal Ecosystems, Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture, Resilient Communities and Economies, and Environmental Literacy and Workforce Development.

Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture

Michigan Sea Grant supports the Great Lakes fisheries through teaching about the connection we have to the Lakes; through research that directly or indirectly has an impact on the fisheries; and through outreach to communities.

Resilient Communities and Economies

The Sustainable Small Harbor project, funded by Michigan Sea Grant and partners, has helped communities identify barriers preventing small harbors from becoming economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable.

Enhancing Environmental Literacy

Michigan Sea Grant is a leader in Great Lakes literacy and science education, helping to create a network of educators, students, and informed citizens who share their knowledge of and commitment to Great Lakes stewardship with others.
