Home Buyer Education

As a HUD certified counseling agency, MSU Extension helps potential, current and future home buyers/renters to understand the complex home buyer/renter process and learn the true costs of responsible homeownership.

A homeownership education course is required for being approved for MSHDA and USDA Rural Development loans or Down Payment Assistance. MSU Extension offers four-hour webinars which you can join virtually. You can find them listed in the Events channel at canr.msu.edu/mimoneyhealth and click to register. The cost is $25, with income-based scholarships available. To request a scholarship, email the instructor before the class with your county of residence, household annual income and household size. If you qualify, the instructor will email you a coupon code to include in your registration.

We also offer a self-paced online class through eHome America that you can find at ehomeamerica.org/msue. The coupon code is MSUE10 to receive $10 off when you register, for a total cost of $89. We also have full income-based scholarships available upon request.

After you complete either of these two options, you will receive a certificate of completion to give your loan officer, which is required for MSHDA loans or down payment assistance.
