Save the date! Michigan State University specialists and Extension personnel will be on hand to present the results of their latest research and answer questions concerning the obstacles facing tree fruit and winegrape growers today.

The 2012 Orchard and Vineyard Show is scheduled for January 24-25, 2012, and will be held at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme, Mich. Registration opens at 8:00 a.m. and the cost for both days is $30, which is payable at the door. The line is often long at the registration desk, so meeting attendees are asked to arrive well before the 9:00 a.m. start time. The winegrape session will be held on January 24, tree fruit topics will be offered both days.

We are excited to host Steve Hoying, senior Extension associate from Cornell University. Mr. Hoying will share his expertise in apple and cherry training systems with an emphasis on new, high density orchards. We are also glad to host Bernard Zandstra, MSU Department of Horticulture; he will address weed management in both the tree fruit and winegrape sessions. Additionally, many MSU specialists and Extension personnel will be on hand to present the results of their latest research and answer questions concerning the obstacles facing tree fruit and winegrape growers today.

The Fruit Industry Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, January 24, and the cost is $15. The Cherry Marketing Institute’s (CMI) luncheon on Wednesday, January 25, is free to growers that register with CMI. The CMI annual report will be held on Wednesday morning. The exhibit hall will be open throughout the show and features vendors of orchard and vineyard equipment as well as supplies, commodity organizations, and more. A wine tasting and hors d’oeuvre social hour will follow the educational sessions on Tuesday.
