2023 Chopped Food Challenge Day 3
Building solar ovens
Campers will explore harnessing the power of heat energy from the sun to cook food by making our own solar ovens! With a mini pizza box, tinfoil, plastic wrap, tape and some markers, everyone will create the cutest solar oven. Good thing it’s sunny so the s’mores get all warm.
Animal love!
Many campers absolutely love spending time with chickens & holding them. It’s one of the many animal chores they do on the farm. Even the bunnies are well loved by all the campers too!
Fishing
The kids had a blast fishing today! They did so well with catching a bunch of fish and were still concerned with catching big bertha, our snapping turtle.
STEAM: Advertisements
Continuing with our recipes, campers are making an advertisement to show everyone at camp! They are sure getting creative with it.
Pollinator Game
Pretend you’re a bee flying around and in search of nectar. In this game, campers are bees spreading “pollen” which are ping pong balls around flowers. Campers learned how bees pollinate plants so they can produce seeds/ or fruit. Did you know Tollgate has beehives all over? You will see so many in the children’s garden.
Garden time: weeding, watering, and harvesting.
Campers learned where our food comes from. We sure do! The garden! Today, they got to work weeding and watering the plants to make sure they are healthy. Then they picked some vegetables to put in the cooler for future use!
Garden Kitchen: Sautéed summer squash & fruit pizza
Today’s snacks were so yummy! The Activity Center smelled so good this morning with the yummy summer squash cooking. It was a hit with the campers and will for sure be another request next year. Fruit pizza is another popular snack we’ve done before. Campers love it! It’s so yummy.
