2023 Splish Splash Water Camp Day 4

Campers explored the capillarity of water and the properties of adhesion. The capillary effect is the movement of a liquid along the surface of a solid caused by the adhesion of molecules of the liquid to the molecules of the solid. Taking two cups, one with food dye and water, another without, someone rolled a paper towel then dipped both ends into the cups hoping to see the water travel from the dye into the empty cup, thinking it would come out clear.

Water relay

There were three stations, one where you had to carry a bucket filled with water through an obstacle course without spilling the water. The second one was a competition on who had to fill a two-liter pop bottle with water the fastest. The third station, campers had to carry a water balloon between their shoulders. The campers had a blast playing this game!

EDU Garden: watering and weeding

As much as our volunteers take care of our garden, campers also do too! They picked some veggies, weeded, and watered the plants. Every group helped make the garden look so good, some did get carried away with the hose and wanted to spray each other and their stewards with it. All in good fun though!

STEAM: Boat building

Every boat is coming together and they look so good. They painted their boat today and even added their hand prints all over it which was so cute! Tomorrow, they're going to test the boat and see if it floats!

Canoeing

Another week out on the pond! This time we canoed. Many of our returning campers are pros at canoeing and loved every second of it. In the afternoon, we had some rain and thunder but managed to get one last pepper group out on the pond.

Garden Kitchen: spinach feta pasta and buttermilk biscuits

The morning snack was a hit, even for campers who aren’t fans of spinach still tried it! Everyone loved the pasta. That’s right, the famous buttermilk biscuits are back for another week of camp! They had the biscuits with yummy homemade peach jam. Campers rave about it and will receive the recipe so they can make it at home.

Goat time

As usual, we always have a pepper group visit the goats and they LOVE them. It teaches our campers how to treat farm animals whenever they do animal chores.
