2023 Survival Camp Day 4

Canoeing, shelters and fire building!

Today was an exciting day of camp!!

Slackline

Today campers did well with their balance. There was a slackline between two pine trees for campers to walk across. You ever seen those people attach a line to the Grand Canyon? That’s a slackline and they are attached in case they do fall. Everyone did so well!

Canoeing

Our second week canoeing with the campers. They first practiced on land, and we tested everyone to make sure they knew the rules and safety of canoeing. Then they were off to canoe around the pond.

Fire Building

When you’re out on a hike and plan to camp out it’s important to know how to light a fire if you don’t have a light on you and if you only have flint and steel. Campers created a mini fire with sticks, paper, and wool. Then they were given flint and steel, some were almost successful with lighting a fire. It was hard with the wind.

STEAM: Shelter Building

Everyone continued to build their shelters using only the forest around them. They’re turning out so well, I love the creativity of each pepper group’s shelter.

Water Filtration challenge

Campers are identifying sources of pollution on the farm or in their own lives and will explore ways of counteracting it. They’ll realize not all pollution can be seen or effectively removed from water. Everyone will try and filter the dirty water then ask, “is it cleaner?” “How does water get dirty?”

Garden Kitchen: Buttermilk biscuits and creamy carrot soup

A fan favorite buttermilk biscuit are back!! Today they added either blueberries or chocolate chips and they were delicious. In the afternoon they made a yummy creamy carrot soup. Even though it was very hot outside they still really liked this snack.

Make sure your camper wears their tie dye tomorrow and come out for skits under the pavilion! Check out more photos here:
