MSU's Office of Admissions offers a $2,000 Pre-College Scholarship for use during a student's first year. This is a competitive scholarship for eligible participants from all MSU pre-college programs, not just 4-H programs like Exploration Days.

 What is it?

Michigan State University’s (MSU’s) Office of Admissions offers a $2,000 Pre-College Scholarship for use during a student's first year at MSU. The first-year status applies to both incoming freshmen and transfer students. This is a competitive scholarship for eligible participants from all MSU pre-college programs, not just 4-H programs like Exploration Days. Fifty to 60 have been awarded annually in the last six years.

Michigan State University scholarships are very helpful to students.

Who’s Eligible?

Previously, the scholarship was available to eighth graders only. This year, MSU Admissions decided to broaden the eligibility range to include students entering eighth, ninth or 10th-grade, following their pre-college program involvement. Due to the larger number of eligible students, the number of applicants per program is limited to five percent. Students who received the scholarship as eighth graders are not eligible to apply again. Students who apply but are not selected cannot reapply in a future year.

What’s the Application Process?

Program directors invite eligible students to apply based on their attitude, behavior, active participation and understanding of program lessons. MSU Admissions will send invitations in late October or early November. Their selections will be announced in the spring. The application packet includes:

-Nomination form

-Program director nomination form

-Academic release form

-Nominee responses to four application questions (This replaces the personal essay from past applications.)

-Teacher recommendation

Each applicant must also provide a copy of his or her full-year report card or transcript from their most recently completed grade.

This is an MSU scholarship, not a 4-H scholarship, however, for your convenience, details are posted on the 4-H website.
