URP Alumni Spotlight: Eric Frederick

What are you doing now, personally and/or professionally?

One of the things I love about planning is that you can be as much of a specialist or generalist as you want. It’s great to be able to apply planning principles and a long-term comprehensive framework to any topic about which you’re passionate. For me, that topic is broadband and technology. I am the Vice President of Community Affairs for the non-profit Connected Nation, Inc. I work closely with the State of Michigan and communities to create and implement plans for overcoming the digital divide. I used to do traditional master planning and zoning work, but was provided an opportunity to apply my planning education to serve others in a field in which I was passionate.
