Armyworm moth trap results
High numbers of armyworm moths captured at several locations in Michigan.
This year, a pilot armyworm trapping effort was initiated
by MSU Extension. With the help of
growers and agribusiness representatives, pheromone traps were established in
early May and the number of moths captured has been compiled.
A few conclusions can be made from the data collected.
- The armyworm arrived early this season.
- The populations of adult males were highly variable between traps.
- The populations were alarmingly high at some locations.
The populations are clearly on the decline at most locations.

I want to thank all of the cooperators who have and continue to monitor traps at their locations.
