On Tuesday, March 12, the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) participated in Give Green Day, MSU’s annual 24-hour day of giving. Collectively, CANR received 224 gifts and raised nearly $30,000 for various projects and programs representing the college, AgBioResearch and MSU Extension.

CANR was represented with two featured Give Green Day campaigns, both of which exceeded their project goals due to generous donor support.

CANR Whole Student Success Fund – $12,575 from 79 gifts

Donors on Give Green Day gave $12,575 to the CANR Whole Student Success Fund, exceeding the college’s $10,000 fundraising goal. The project benefitted from a lead gift from Brian ('92, Department of Fisheries and Wildlife) and Jessica Kernohan which was used to match the first $2,000 in donations to the project.

“We were so proud to support CANR on Give Green Day. The Whole Student Success Fund is such an important resource for students, and we are glad our gift helped inspire other CANR Spartans to give back.” – Brian ('92, Department of Fisheries and Wildlife) and Jessica Kernohan

For exceeding our $10,000 project goal, CANR will receive a $1,000 bonus award from MSU towards the Whole Student Success Fund. These funds will be put to use supporting students facing time-sensitive needs, such as food and housing insecurity, as well as benefiting students struggling with the cost of textbooks, enhancing health and wellness resources and closing technology gaps.

“The generosity of the CANR community is remarkable. Our students are the change-makers of tomorrow, but without the resources in place to support them in times of need, we may never see the impact they can make. On behalf of myself and all my colleagues, thank you to all those who came together on Give Green Day to empower CANR student success.” – CANR Dean Kelly Millenbah, Ph.D.

4-H Learning Experience Sponsorship Fund – $6,295 from 58 gifts

Donors gave $6,295 to the 4-H Learning Experience Sponsorship Fund, surpassing the $5,000 project goal. This project benefited from a lead gift provided by Sandy Stuckman and Noel Stuckman which was used to match $1,500 in gifts from donors to the project.

"We were pleased to support MSU Extension 4-H Youth Development on Give Green Day. The Learning Experience Sponsorship Fund is such an important resource for outstanding 4-H youth.  This fund supports their participation at events such as 4-H Capitol Experience, Exploration Days, Great Lakes Natural Resources Camp and similar 4-H programs.  We appreciate others who were inspired to invest in this fund as well." - Sandy and Noel Stuckman

Gifts to the Learning Experience Sponsorship Fund help reduce the cost for Michigan youth to participate in a variety of 4-H learning experiences across the state and nation. 4-H will also receive a $1,000 bonus award from MSU for exceeding their Give Green Day fundraising goal.

The Department of Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics (AFRE) also ran a CrowdPower project on Give Green Day in support of undergraduate student scholarships which is still accepting donations.

Together, gifts to these projects, as well as donations to funds from other CANR departments and units, empower the success of our current students, faculty and staff while building a stronger college for generations of Spartans to come.

Collectively, MSU raised over $1.4 million from nearly 7,000 on Give Green Day. You can learn more about the impact of Give Green Day here.
