On Tuesday, March 10, the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR) participated in Give Green Day, MSU’s annual day of giving. Collectively, CANR received 281 gifts and raised nearly $45,000 for various projects and programs representing the college, AgBioResearch and MSU Extension. CANR was represented with two featured Give Green Day campaigns:

CANR Alumni Association Scholarship Fund – $14,625 from 75 gifts

Donors on Give Green Day gave $14,625 to the CANR Alumni Association Scholarship Fund. This fund provides CANR students with annual financial assistance in the form of student club grants. Supporting around 15 CANR student organizations every year, these student club grants fund experiential learning opportunities like professional development conferences and workshops, community engagement initiatives and industry networking opportunities.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the donors for their direct contribution to our professional growth and academic success. Your generosity makes it possible for us to take our research outside the university and into the professional spaces where it can influence real-world forest management.” – Parker Hopkins, ’28, Ph.D. Candidate, Forestry Graduate Student Organization

This project benefited from a challenge gift provided by Michigan Farm Bureau, which was used to match the first $5,000 in donations to the fund.

“Michigan Farm Bureau is proud to partner with the MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources in support of Give Green Day and the grants provided to student clubs.” said Michigan Farm Bureau President Ben LaCross. “These student organizations play a vital role in developing the next generation of agricultural leaders, offering hands-on experiences that complement the outstanding education students receive in the classroom. Many of these young leaders go on to become our members, interns, employees and valued partners across Michigan’s agricultural community. We’re honored to invest in their success.”

4-H Learning Experience Sponsorship Fund – $8,250 from 51 gifts

Michigan 4-H significantly exceeded its Give Green Day $5,000 funding goal, raising $8,250 from 51 donors in support of the 4-H Learning Experience Sponsorship Fund, including a match gift from Sandra and Noel Stuckman which matched the first $3,000 in donations. Gifts to the 4-H Learning Experience Sponsorship Fund reduce the cost for Michigan youth to participate in a variety of 4-H learning experiences across the state and nation.

“I know from personal experience –as both a former 4-H'er and 4-H professional – the difference that a 4-H experience can make in the life of a young person. We’re grateful we could provide a challenge gift that helps to grow this important fund making 4-H experiences more accessible to all Michigan youth.” – Sandra Stuckman

With all Give Green Day bonuses accounted for, including a $1,000 bonus for surpassing its goal on Give Green Day, a total of $9,695 was raised on March 10 to support the 4-H Learning Experience Sponsorship Fund. In addition, 12 others gifts were given to support additional 4-H funds, furthering the impact of donors on Give Green Day.

Together, gifts to these projects, as well as donations to funds from other CANR departments and units, empower the success of our current students, faculty and staff while building a stronger college for generations of Spartans to come.

Collectively, MSU raised a historic $6.49 million on Give Green Day, setting a new record for this university wide fundraising event. You can learn more about the impact of Give Green Day here.
