CANR Dean's Update - May 31, 2017

A message from Ron Hendrick, dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources

Colleagues:

Here's to a successful academic year! Many thanks to all of you who helped me through the first year of what I hope will be many more to come. We've accomplished a lot, and I am looking forward to getting a lot more done over the next year.

By way of an update, we are conducting interviews for chairs in the Departments of Animal Science and Food Science and Human Nutrition, and a director for the School of Planning, Design and Construction. We will resume the search for a chair in the Department of Community Sustainability this fall.

The search team for the Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion has been named and the interviews will take place this summer. I'm looking forward to filling this important role in the college and being fully staffed.

Our first cohort of CANR leaders have been to the White Men as Full Diversity Partners workshop. There are three more cohorts scheduled to take part in these efforts. I look forward to our continued efforts and discussions in the area of inclusion, equity and diversity to advance the CANR as a leader in this work.

I have asked the ANR Creative, AgBioResearch and MSU Extension communications teams to bring greater unity and coordination to our communication efforts. I have asked Eileen Gianiodis to lead that effort as director, and Holly Whetstone to serve as associate director. They will spend some time this summer working with leadership on strategic communications planning, as well as organizing the ANR Communications & Marketing department.

I hope that the summer offers you an opportunity to focus, travel, rest or whatever rejuvenates you.

Ron Hendrick
Professor & Dean, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources
