Categories 6 and 7A pesticide review classes in Washtenaw County start soon

Prepare for 6 and 7A specific categories exams by attending optional pesticide review classes on Jan. 6 or 8, 2020, in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Michigan State University Extension in southeast Michigan is offering Pesticide Applicator Category Review Classes on the following dates for those who want to prepare for the following specific categories pesticide exams:

  • Monday, Jan. 6, 2020 - General Pest Management, eight category 7A credits offered
  • Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2020 - Right-of-Way Pest Management, eight category credits offered

Each specific category class will be delivered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (one hour lunch on your own) at the MSU Extension Washtenaw County Office, 705 N Zeeb Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48103. Study manuals for each class may be ordered online from the National Pestcide Safety Education Center. Purchasing study manuals is not required but highly recommended. 

Online registration for one or more classes is available, or you can register by calling the Washtenaw County MSU Extension office at 734-997-1678 or the Lenawee County MSU Extension office at 517-264-5300. The registration cost is $25.

These review classes are intended to help prepare participants for the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) specific category certification exams. This is an optional review session, and you are not required to take this class to take any of the MDARD exams.

The regular MDARD certification exam will be held at multiple locations around the state. Check the MDARD Online Pesticide Exam Scheduling website for more information about exam dates.

If you plan to take the MDARD exam, be prepared to pay by check (no cash or credit cards) payable to the State of Michigan. The fee is $50 for private applicators and $75 for commercial applicators. MDARD requires you register for the exam session by scheduling an appointment online or calling 1-800-292-3939. MDARD does not accept walk-ins or late arrivals. Spaces are limited so schedule your exam as soon as possible. Photo identification is also required.
