FCCP Attends Northeast-Midwest State Foresters Alliance Forest Resource Planning Committee Meeting in Smithville, New Jersey

Chad Papa, FCCP, and Stephen Handler, NIACS, attended the Northeast-Midwest State Foresters Alliance Forest Resource Planning Committee Meeting in Smithville, NJ. They presented on forest certification and their work to inform climate-smart forestry through education and research.

Papa’s presentation included an overview of the Forest Carbon and Climate Program (FCCP), as well as a discussion of recent research conducted as part of the State-Level Forest and Forest Product Carbon Modeling project in partnership with American Forests, the Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science (NIACS), and the Canadian Forest Service Carbon Accounting Team.

The conference concluded with a full day of visits to sites in the Wharton State Forest and the Bass River State Forest focusing on climate resilience management, habitat creation, and forest restoration initiatives.
