Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Legume Systems Research Announces NEW Call for Concept Notes: Area of Inquiry 3

The Legume Systems Innovation Lab is seeking concept notes to support Area of Inquiry 3: Analysis of sociocultural and/or economic motivators or barriers to legume utilization at various stages and scales within production and market systems.

The Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Legume Systems Research, managed by Michigan State University, invites concept notes for Area of Inquiry 3 for collaborative research and capacity building projects on legume systems with the potential to generate mutual benefits for developing countries and U.S. agriculture.

The Legume Systems Innovation Lab Areas of Inquiry (AOI) reflect a programmatic alignment with the U.S. government’s Global Food Security Strategy and complementarity to the Research Program on Grain Legumes and Dryland Cereals (GLDC) of the CGIAR.

The Legume Systems Innovation Lab will focus on three AOIs:

  •   Area of Inquiry 1: Integration of legumes into sustainable smallholder farming systems and agricultural landscapes
  •   Area of Inquiry 2: Integration of legumes within local/regional market systems, including trade
  •   Area of Inquiry 3: Analysis of sociocultural and/or economic motivators or barriers to legume utilization at various stages and scales within production and market systems 

The Legume Systems Innovation Lab is requesting concept notes for Area of Inquiry 3 – Analysis of sociocultural and/or economic motivators or barriers to legume utilization at various stages and scales within production and market systems.

The deadline for submission of concept notes is July 15, 2019. For more information on eligibility and requirements visit Funding Opportunities on our website or piestar. The concept notes are the first stage, with full proposals requested of a selected subset of finalists.

A webinar will be held on June 11, 2019 at 11am Eastern Daylight Time in the U.S. (GMT/UTC -4 hours) to address any questions regarding this opportunity. Please submit any questions in advance, through the contact manager. Registration for the webinar is required and will be held through Zoom.

The Legume Systems Innovation Lab is also accepting concept notes for AOI2 - Integration of legumes within local/regional market systems, including trade. This request was announced on May 28, 2019 and the concept notes are due on July 8, 2019.
