The annual Pest Management Update is where Michigan State University Extension specialists address weeds, insects and diseases of field crops. The event will be held at various locations across Michigan, including Michigan’s Thumb region: Feb. 6 at the Sanilac Career Center, 175 E. Aiken Rd., Peck, MI 48466, and Feb. 21 at the Saginaw Valley Research and Extension Center, 3775 S. Reese Rd., Frankenmuth, MI 48732. Information on these and other locations, including Ottawa, Van Buren and Lenawee counties, can be found in the Pest Management Update flyer.

Topics discussed will include managing various pests that threatened the financial bottom line, including marestail and roughstalk bluegrass management; scouting for tar spot in corn; and identifying and controlling threatening insects. The meetings offer four Restricted Use Pesticide credits. Registration is $30 and includes lunch and the “2019 Weed Control Guide for Field Crops.”

To register, go to the Pest Management Update registration page or contact your local MSU Extension office.

To avoid confusion, you may note that there is another meeting called the Field Crop Production Update. This series covers agronomic topics and is scheduled for various dates across Michigan, including Feb. 7 at the Saginaw Valley Research and Extension Center.
