Michigan State University Extension and the MSU Horse Teaching and Research Center are gearing up to welcome visitors for the first Breakfast on the Farm event at a horse farm. The event, which includes a free, farm-cooked pancake breakfast and self-guided walking tour, will take place August 2 at the farm from 9 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., with breakfast served until 12 noon. The farm is located on Collins Road just south of MSU’s main campus. Visitors will park off-site at the Farm Bureau Pavilion, 4301 Farm Lane-Lansing, where a bus will transport them to and from the farm for the pancake breakfast and morning of hands-on fun and learning.

Breakfast on the Farm is a program of MSU Extension that began in 2009 and has attracted over 92,000 visitors to 42 farm events in the past 16 years. The overarching goal of Breakfast on the Farm is to help strengthen consumer understanding of agriculture and its vital role in our everyday lives. Past events have been held on dairy, beef, field crop, and one apple farm. This year, visitors will see and learn about all aspects of horse management and care, including housing, nutrition, veterinary care, manure management, transportation, forage production and careers in the equine industry. Educational stations with knowledgeable specialists, industry leaders and volunteers will be stationed throughout the working farmstead, which is home to 62 Arabian horses.

MSU Extension Breakfast on the Farm events are free; however, tickets are limited and required for breakfast. FREE tickets are available online at https://events.anr.msu.edu/BreakfastontheFarm/. Paper tickets are at the following locations upon request:
