Gratiot County farm hosts free Breakfast on the Farm Aug. 17 in Breckenridge

Humm Farm LLC, a crop farm in Gratiot County, is hosting a free, family-friendly Breakfast on the Farm event that gives consumers a front-row seat to modern production agriculture.

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Humm Farm LLC, a crop farm in Gratiot County, is hosting a free, family-friendly Breakfast on the Farm event that gives consumers a front-row seat to modern production agriculture. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 17 at 7240 N. Wisner Rd., Breckenridge. Breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. to noon.

Families who attend this event are guaranteed to have fun and learn something new about modern agriculture. Consumers will enjoy a free (with ticket) pancake breakfast featuring Michigan-made products and be able to take self-guided tours of the farm to get a firsthand look at how this modern crop farm operates.

Tours of various parts of the farm will include educational exhibits where volunteers will be available to answer questions. Large tractors and farm equipment are essential to farm the Humm family’s 2,900 acres of corn, wheat and soybeans, and they will be available for all to see and enjoy on the day of the event. In July, the Humm family was named Gratiot County’s Farm Family of the Year for 2013.

“It’s really about taking care of the land,” said Erin Humm, wife to one of the farm’s owners, Olan Humm. “We’re excited to show our non-farm neighbors what we’re all about and how we produce the food they eat.”

This sixth-generation family farm takes conservation seriously.

“Our mission is to nurture the land for generations to come,” Humm added.
