High-tunnel meeting planned for September 5 in Benton Harbor, Mich.

Learn more about the challenges and benefits of using high-tunnels in the production of fruits and vegetables at a twilight meeting on September 5 at the Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center.

If you have been considering adding crop production in high tunnels to your farming operation, please join us for a twilight meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, at the Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center (SWMREC). SWMREC is located at 1791 Hillandale Road, Benton Harbor, Mich. (view map).

Have your questions answered about high-tunnel production for several types of crops. Learn about challenges and benefits of using this system for production of fruits and vegetables. The meeting will provide an opportunity to view a number of current research projects underway in the tunnels, and provide some ideas for potential crops and growing methods for you to consider. Meeting attendees will see sweet cherries grown as fruiting walls, performance trials of blackberry cultivars, day-neutral strawberries under evaluation for heat tolerance in tunnels, fall raspberries grown in containers, and vegetables produced in a variety of artificial media.

There is no charge for this meeting. Contact Jamie Styburski at the Berrien County MSU Extension office at 1-269-944-4126 for more information.
