Joe Hune, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan vice president and 4-H alum, has been elected to a three-year term on the Michigan 4-H Foundation board. He brings leadership experience and a passion for civic engagement to help expand 4-H’s reach and impact.

Joe Hune, vice president of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and president of West Michigan and the Upper Peninsula division, was elected to a three-year term on the Michigan 4-H Foundation in August 2025.

In his private sector career and his former work as a state legislator, Hune has used a collaborative approach to inspiring teams to succeed. Sheila Burkhardt, chair of the board development committee, says she looks forward to seeing that energy at work with the Michigan 4-H Foundation.

“Joe understands the power of 4-H and the importance of civic engagement and healthy living— two important areas that encompass a lot of life skills,” she said. “I appreciate his experience and know that he will be an advocate for donors who want to expand 4-H’s reach.”

Hune, an alum of Livingston County 4-H, was inducted into the Emerald Clover Society in 2014. He credits 4-H for helping him learn important life skills.

“4-H helped instill responsibility, hard work and leadership skills in me at a young age. I would not have changed my experience for anything,” he said. “I’m looking forward to working with the board to enhance community engagement and promote 4-H’s mission and programs.”

Hune is also on the board of the West Michigan Policy Forum, the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce and The Right Place Inc.
