Shevela’s study focuses on designing decline, including the reclamation of industrial sites and the effects on public perception of safety, economics and the environment.

“I’m using landscape performance research to analyze a case study. My case study is the abandoned Michigan Central Station [in Detroit] which features an abandoned station building, as well as, neglected rail rest spots,” Shevela said.

In order to be eligible for funding, CANR students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, be highly motivated, inquisitive, committed and self-disciplined, and have an MSU faculty member agree to mentor their project.
