Linking Michigan State University Extension to communities across the state

Extension brings education and resources to citizens across Michigan.

Many people don’t realize it, but Michigan State University Extension has been in communities for more than 100 years. MSU Extension focuses on education and resources in the areas of economic development, costal issues, leadership, natural resources, 4-H and health and nutrition. Extension exists is in every community to help people and the success of the communities.

MSU Extension has provided local programs addressing economic development, business skills, community beautification and a strong government. A few institutes provide research work to help protect Michigan’s water, forest and wildlife resources.

Extension educators work with agricultural practices to provide research information on production, diseases and financial management to assist growers to become more profitable and environmental friendly.

MSU Extension educators partner with community organizations and services to provide workshops on preventing chronic disease and pain management, managing balance for the aging, enjoying healthy eating and being aware of food safety through lifestyle change classes. According to the CDC’s 2014-2015 annual report, Michigan has very disturbing health and well-being reports. Extension educators have begun work to foster a positive difference in the lives of our citizens.

A great deal of our youth need enrichment programing. This may be for the lack of after-school programing in their school district or high school dropout rate. Through MSU Extension youth learn from caring adult volunteers how to become leaders and pursue projects that interest them from agriculture to robotics.
