Michigan Field Crops podcast “In the Weeds” first series now available

MSU Extension field crops team releases In the Weeds, a new podcast to provide convenient education to critical issues facing Michigan field crop farmers.

New In the Weeds podcast

To continue to improve our educational availability, the Michigan State University Extension field crops team introduces a new podcast, “In the Weeds.” The first series has been released and offers information on a variety of field crops topics. These are educational conversations with leading agriculture professionals around critical issues facing our farming industry.

The first series is listed below. The next series will start in February and the topics will discuss conservation practices and cultivating resilience on farm and in our communities. Series 1 Episode 1: Marketing Though Mayhem

We sit down with Angie Setzer, vice president of Grain for Citizens LLC of Charlotte, Michigan, to pull back the curtains on marketing grain. Get in the weeds with us as we discuss the best practices for marketing and how to improve your buying and selling power.

Series 1 Episode 2: Is Farming Stressing You Out?!?!?

We sit down with Abe Pasch, dairy farmer and Isabella County Farm Bureau president, and Paul Gross, MSU Extension educator, to discuss the stresses of farming. Communicating better with fellow farmers and our non-agriculture neighbors are important for our rural communities’ connections.

We sit down with Chris DiFonzo, MSU field crops entomologist, to explore the progression of Bt resistance and the solutions.

We sit down with Dean Baas, MSU Extension educator, and Ricardo Costa Silva, field crops MSU Extension educator, to discuss the role cover crops should play in our rotations and how farmers can achieve that.
