On Wednesday, October 8, Michigan State University Extension will host the third annual Michigan 4-H Day at the Capitol. This event, held for the first time in 2023, showcases the positive impact of the Michigan 4-H program and brings visibility to its efforts throughout the state.
“National 4-H Week is October 5-11, and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate our Michigan 4-H program than to spotlight its incredible impact to our state’s leaders,” said Quentin Tyler, director of MSU Extension. “We’re excited to be returning for our third year of this event, and we’ve got a great slate of 4-H supporters, alumni, educators and youth joining us to showcase this important program to our top officials.”
Michigan 4-H is the flagship youth development program of MSU Extension and reached more than 137,000 young people ages 5 to 19 last year. Through various activities, clubs, groups, programs and events, 4-H provides fun, hands-on educational opportunities that ready youth for life and work by helping them find their spark, build real world skills and become resilient, adaptable, lifelong learners.
“Michigan 4-H is in communities all across our state, helping today’s young people to develop critical skills that prepare them for college, careers and life,” continued Tyler. “As a result, these young people are beyond ready to contribute to society, support our economy, and make a difference. We’re grateful for the opportunity to elevate awareness of this vital program as we strive to reach more youth and further our impact.”
Legislators, stakeholders and members of the public are invited to join MSU Extension for Michigan 4-H Day at the Capitol, which will be held from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Heritage Hall atrium. At the event, informational booths will be hosted by Michigan 4-H youth and staff, who will share their personal experiences of impact through Michigan 4-H. A brief program will be held at noon. Scheduled speakers include Tyler; State Rep. Jerry Neyer; MSU President Kevin Guskiewicz; Jackie Venton, Michigan Department of State Chief Operating Officer and a Michigan 4-H alumna; and two Michigan 4-H youth, Logan Dole and Danykah Muck.
