Michigan Nut Growers Association potluck meeting

The Michigan Nut Growers Association is holding an educational program and potluck on Saturday, October 4 at DeKleine Orchards in Hudsonville, Michigan.

DeKleine Orchards, located at 1887 32nd Ave., Hudsonville, MI 49428, will be hosting the fall potluck meeting of the Michigan Nut Growers Association (MNGA) at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014. They would also like to extend an invitation to all Chestnut Growers, Inc. and Midwest Nut Producers Council (MNPC) members, family and friends.

DeKleine Orchards is one of the larger commercial chestnut orchards in Michigan. Carl DeKleine will summarize the DeKleine’s chestnut business by sharing lessons learned, challenges remaining and future plans. A 1:30 p.m. tour of the home orchard will include seeing chestnuts and other trees, farming equipment, harvesting and processing of chestnuts as well as sales activity. A second 2:30 p.m. tour at a nearby DeKleine chestnut plot of 1,200 trees will include watching an experimental harvester and seeing the results of this spring’s transplanting of 125 mature chestnut trees.
