Michigan State University launches its first Extension Office at a community college

An open house at the new Mason County MSU Extension office will be held in June.

For more than 100 years, Michigan State University Extension has been providing information and programs in Mason County. Extension’s mission is to help people improve their lives by bringing the vast knowledge resources of MSU directly to individuals, communities and businesses.  MSU Extension in Mason County recently relocated to West Shore Community College and we are inviting the public to join us for an open house on Monday, June 5 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. Light refreshments, hands-on demonstrations and door prizes will be awarded. This will be a fun, free, family-friendly event.

MSU Extension provides programming related to agriculture, Sea Grant, community development, housing, personal finance, horticulture, nutrition and health and youth development in Mason County. This mission directly aligns with many of the academic programs and community resources offered by West Shore Community College. When space became available at the college, MSU Extension, Mason County and West Shore Community College all agreed this would be a beneficial partnership for all organizations and the residents we serve.

The Mason County MSU Extension office moved from a downtown Scottville storefront location in late April. The new location at West Shore Community College allows for more classroom space and collaboration. The West Shore location also increases access to technology.

West Shore Community College is also home to Michigan State University’s Institute of Agricultural Technology (IAT), which offers certificate programs in agricultural operations and fruit and vegetable crop management.

The public is invited to attend an open house of the MSU Extension space at West Shore Community College located at 3000 N. Stiles Rd Scottville MI 49454. No RSVP is required. This will be an opportunity for guests to learn more about the services that MSU Extension can provide in Mason County as well as MSU Institute of Ag Technology, FFA and West Shore Community College programs.
