MSU Ag Squad Wins First Place

Article from the Milk Messenger on the 1969 Ag Tech Dairy Judging Team.

Members of the MSU Agricultural Technology Judging Team are, from left, Robert Hawley of Cement City; L.C. Scramlin of Holly; John Oakley of Stockbridge; Carl Chappel of Perry, NY; and Coach Lee Kucker of the MSU Dairy Department.

The Michigan State University Agricultural Technology judging team placed first at the Royal Winter Agricultural Fairy in Toronto last month.

The team judged both dairy cattle, records and pedigrees. They also were required to judge and give oral reasons in classes of sheep, beef, and swine.

Team members worked out before the contest under the supervision of Lee Kucker of the MSU Dairy Department. In addition to their work on campus, they had experience judging commercial animals on area dairy farms.

The agricultural technology program, which has been supported by MMPA, is a two-year program specifically designed for those wanting specialized training for farm and agriculturally-related work.
