Northwest Michigan Horticulture Research Center annual open house

Join us Aug. 25, 2016, for free wagon tours, sessions on wine grapes and tree fruit, and wine tasting and dinner in Traverse City, Michigan.

The Northwest Michigan Horticulture Research Center’s annual open house is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016, at 6686 S. Center Highway, Traverse City, MI 49684. This year’s event will include wine tasting and dinner, and the Leelanau Horticultural Society’s annual meeting. Free educational wagon tours of the Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Center featuring Michigan State University specialists will take place from 3-4:45 p.m. The tour will include wine grape and tree fruit specialists that will speak on a variety of topics, including:

  • Disease and pest management
  • Vine health
  • Insectary plant plots
  • Tart cherry scion
  • Rootstock breeding
  • Biopesticides
  • Using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the early detection of cherry leaf spot

Growers are encouraged to meet with equipment vendors during the social hour from 4:45-6 p.m. Dinner and the Leelanau Horticultural Society’s annual meeting will follow at 6 p.m.

As in past years, the social hour and dinner are sponsored by the Leelanau Horticultural Society and Parallel 45 with the educational portion sponsored by AgBioResearch, MSU Extension and the Northwest Michigan Horticulture Research Foundation.

Cost for dinner tickets is $10 per person. To reserve or purchase a dinner ticket, please call 231-946-1510 or email Jenn Zelinski at goodr100@msu.edu by Monday, Aug. 22. Dinner will be catered by Ethnic Garden Catering and will feature locally produced food.
