Official launch of CACCI-Rwanda

CACCI-Rwanda launched in partnership with the African Union Commission AKADEMIYA2063 and country partners to assist with implementation of NDCs and NAPs

Kigali, Rwanda, January 12, 2023 – An event was held for the Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) to officially launch a partnership with the Comprehensive Action for Climate Change Initiative (CACCI). This partnership’s purpose is to support climate mitigation and adaptation plans as set forth by the Paris Agreement. In partnership with the African Union Commission (AUC), CACCI will coordinate continent wide efforts to mitigate and adapt to climate change. This effort will help the African Union (AU) to comply with their obligations under the Paris Agreement. CACCI-Rwanda efforts are led by institutional partner, AKADEMIYA2063, and the Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA).

Ousmane Badiane, AKADEMIYA2063 Executive Chairperson and CACCI point person for Rwanda, spoke at the launch event entitled: “Collaborative Research Agreement between REMA and AKADEMIYA2063,” on January 12, 2023. CACCI will focus on providing support for the design and implementation of programmatic policies and investments to encourage sustainable and inclusive growth and promote climate mitigation and adaptation across their food systems, notably through Rwanda’s climate action and its National Adaptation Plans (NAPs).

“The partnership between REMA and AKADEMIYA2063 in the CACCI project is a major step towards the implementation of Rwanda’s climate actions in our NAPs. We are hopeful that this project will contribute to ongoing interventions to build the resilience of our economy to the effects of climate change and provide solutions to protect our farmers from the negative effects of climate change that need to be even more holistic and innovative,” said Faustin Munyazikwiye, Deputy Director General of REMA.

CACCI will assist with capacity building and technical expertise to develop their measurement, reporting, and verification mechanisms (MRV). It will also aid the five-year review of countries’ collective progress toward the long-term goals as a contribution to the global evaluation of the Paris Agreement. CACCI is a component of the Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Food Security Policy Research, Capacity, and Influence (PRCI) through the United States International Development Agency (USAID) in partnership with the AU commission, AKADEMIYA2063, and the African Network of Agricultural Policy Research Institutes (ANAPRI, formerly ReNAPRI).
