Participate in the MSU Plant Trial Field Day

Join us August 7 to view new garden plant introductions, observe how they are performing in the heat and hear the latest from MSU Trial Gardens’ staff and plant breeders about new selections.

MSU Plant Trial Field DayEveryone in the commercial floriculture and nursery/landscape industries is invited to participate in the annual MSU Plant Trial Field Day on Tuesday, August 7. This is probably the best opportunity to visit the MSU Trial Gardens to learn about and evaluate a wide range of annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs and native plants.

In addition to walking through the trial gardens, hear presentations from MSU Gardens Director Art Cameron and MSU Trials Manager Katie McCarver about top-performing plants this summer. Representatives from many of the major breeding companies will also highlight some of their favorite new introductions and proven performers. Download the program and register by mail, or register online. Early, discounted registration ends July 31.

The 2012 Michigan Garden Plant Tour is also being held from July 30 to August 10. During this coordinated open house, you can visit six leading producers of herbaceous and woody young plants in Michigan, plus the MSU Gardens, to observe plant performance in ground beds and in containers. You’ll see impressive displays of flowering material, including annuals, perennials and shrubs.

In addition to the MSU Trial Gardens, the participating companies are C. Raker and Sons, Four Star Greenhouse, Mast Young Plants, Pell Greenhouses, Spring Meadow Nursery and Walters Gardens. The Michigan Garden Plant Tour is completely free, but the companies would appreciate a call ahead to know you'll be coming.
