Did you know the federal government purchases more than $350 billion of goods and services a year and the State of Michigan has a diverse portfolio valued at more than $11.6 billion? PTAC stands for “Procurement and Technical Assistance Center” and is a network of dedicated procurement professionals working to help local businesses compete successfully in the government marketplace according to the Association of Procurement Technical Assistance Centers.

Did you also know that Northwest Michigan can boast of having one of the most successful PTAC programs across the State?  Northwest Michigan PTAC is a not-for-profit organization under the Networks Northwest partnership with its goal being to help companies throughout their region successfully obtain and perform under local, state and federal government contracts at NO COST! The PTAC staff also provides a wealth of training and ongoing support to navigate the complexities of securing a lucrative government contract.

If you are not in the Northwest region there are many experts and organizations throughout the State that can offer assistance and guidance to begin selling to the government. Procurement Technical Assistance Center Offices of Michigan (PTAC's) is a great resource to get you started. They will assist in helping find your local PTAC office.

A third source of information is the Small Business Administration (SBA). Finally, Michigan State University Extension partner Northern Lakes Economic Alliance is a resource for assisting businesses in their four county region helping to teach them on how to sell their products and services to the Government. Through their assistance several businesses in Northern Michigan are successfully selling products to the government.

MSU Extension has had a unique relationship with the regional economic development organization Northern Lakes Economic Alliance (NLEA) for more than 20 years. Recognizing the strength of combining resources, this partnership focuses on economic development, entrepreneurship growth and community infrastructure throughout a four-county region in the northwest Lower Peninsula, specifically Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan and Emmet counties. As a result, the NLEA utilizes resources offered through MSU Extension as it provides leadership to state-wide programs sponsored by MSU Extension.
