Public hearings March 30-31 for comment on proposed wheat program

The State of Michigan is conducting hearings for input about establishing the Michigan Wheat Program.

Wheat producers should note that the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has released the following notice of public hearing:

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will conduct a public hearing regarding the establishment of a Michigan Wheat Program. Petitions from Michigan wheat producers were submitted to the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development requesting establishment of a Michigan Wheat Program and pursuant to the Agriculture Commodities Marketing Act (1965 PA 232), two public hearings have been set to receive comments on the proposed program.

The first hearing will be held on March 30, 2011 beginning at 2:00 PM at the Frankenmuth Wickson District Library Community Room, 359 S. Franklin, Frankenmuth, MI 48734.

The second hearing will be held on March 31, 2011 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Michigan Library and Historical Center, Lake Superior Room, 702 W Kalamazoo St., Lansing, MI 48915.

Interested individuals who cannot attend the hearing may submit written testimony until 5:00 PM, Thursday, March 31.
