Learn to enjoy the quiet waters of Michigan and beyond during the Quiet Water Symposium, held annually during Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) Week at Michigan State University.

This year’s Quiet Water Symposium runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 5 at the MSU Pavilion for Agriculture and Livestock Education.

The event is organized by volunteers from the Quiet Water Society, a nonprofit Lansing-based organization. The society uses proceeds from the event to support a grant program that funds environmental and conservation efforts in the Great Lakes area.

The day will feature more than 130 exhibits representing outdoor clubs, watershed groups, outfitters, boat builders, trail supporters, fishing groups, cycling organizations, hiking clubs and nature centers. To celebrate the 21st year of the Quiet Water Symposium, a new, custom wood canoe made by Mackinaw Watercraft will be given as one of the door prizes.

Additionally, the Quiet Water Symposium features the following speakers:

  • Cliff Joacobson, winner of the American Canoe Association’s Legends of Paddling Award.
  • Kevin Callan, one of only four Patrons of Paddle Canada.
  • Jim DuFresne, author of over 20 guidebooks covering Michigan, Alaska and New Zealand.

Show admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students (with ID). Admission for children under 12 is free.

For 101 years, the MSU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, MSU Extension and MSU AgBioResearch have welcomed visitors to ANR Week. This year’s event, March 5-12, offers more than 50 programs and annual association meetings on and near the East Lansing campus. ANR Week is the largest event of its kind in the nation.
