Shepherd Thompson, of Dexter, was elected to a three- year term as a Michigan 4-H Foundation youth trustee in Oct. 2025. The Washtenaw County 4-H’er and high school sophomore has consistently pursued opportunities to address global challenges—most notably through his participation in the World Food Prize Michigan Youth Institute. His early distinction as a top-ranked participant in this 4-H pre-college program in seventh grade, followed by his selection as a 2024 Global Youth Institute delegate in ninth grade, reflects a deep commitment to using research and dialogue to tackle food insecurity and sustainability.

Thompson’s journey is rooted in community. Whether serving on the Grace Bible Church Youth Leadership Team, leading his sophomore class at Washtenaw Christian Academy, or serving as co-captain of his varsity soccer team, he brings a thoughtful and articulate voice to every space he enters.

His internship with the Virtual International Student Alliance connecting youth in Michigan and Uganda, and his repeated recognition at the Michigan Youth Institute, demonstrate how Thompson builds bridges across cultures and generations.

These experiences have shaped a young leader who listens deeply, thinks critically, and acts with integrity. As a Michigan 4-H Foundation youth trustee, Thompson is poised to influence the future of 4-H in Michigan. His ability to connect ideas with action, and his passion for youth empowerment, make him a powerful advocate for the next generation of changemakers. Thompson is not just ready—he’s Beyond Ready.
